As an attentive or defensive driver, you must avoid or reduce the risks of causing an accident. While on the road, remember that you are the only sane driver.

But this doesn’t mean other drivers are crazy. All it means is that you need to be responsible to keep yourself and other passengers safe.

Those days of driving tests and lessons could be a distant memory. However, some tips can help you steer towards safety. These tips include the following:

    Conduct Routine Maintenance

A car that is in pristine condition is sure to improve the safety of your driving adventures. It is not likely to cause road obstructions or breakdowns. Plus, it is less likely to have malfunctions that can seriously injure you and harm other cars.

If you are not a mechanic, take your vehicle for servicing and maintenance at auto repair stores, like D Wells Auto, to prevent potential accidents and road risks. The mechanic there will keep the fluids level full, check the exterior lights, and inflate the tires.

    Review Your Routes

Think of all the routes you want to travel on, plus the conditions at the final destination. Is the weather favorable? How near is the gas station? Is there a major work zone near the area?

To answer all these questions, you must research all the routes before heading out. This way, you will familiarize yourself with the travel path and your final destination.

    Consider Using Visible Deterrents

Any visible deterrents will discourage all the potential thieves from making your car their target. Consider using wheel clamps, visible alarms, and steering wheel locks.

All these devices will send a signal that your car is well protected and even make it unappealing to thieves. In addition, displaying security stickers from the most reliable car security systems will warn every potential criminal.

    Fight Fatigue

According to NHTSA, drowsy-driving accidents are more likely to happen between 6 am and midnight. So, experts urge drivers to stay alert and be very aware of these hours as they are more likely to be sleepy.

The best way to stay alert is to stop your car for the night, rest at a nearby hotel, and drink coffee. Other activities, like turning on your radio, talking to yourself, and rolling down the window for fresh air, can also help to keep you active.

    Load Cargo Carefully

This may not seem like a safety tip for some drivers, but it is. You must load cargo securely and correctly to ensure that your cargo won’t be a problem for you or other drivers.

Research and learn thoroughly about what you need to tie down and tightly secure it. Failure to securely load the cargo can result in a road accident and damages.

It is always important to be cautious while driving, regardless of where you are. Apart from loading cargo carefully and fighting fatigue, you must also consider using visible deterrents, reviewing your routes, and conducting routine maintenance.
